A Journey to Arizona, USA with Artist Mineo Akiyama

A Dream Unfolding

In May 2026, we are going to travel to Arizona with artist, Mineo Akiyama.

Our destinations are Avalon EcoVillage in Southern Arizona and Sedona in North-Central Arizona.

Both places hold deep connections for Mr. Akiyama, surrounded by vast nature and filled with a sacred atmosphere.  The time spent sharing meals and lodging with Mr. Akiyama here promises to be an irreplaceable, precious experience.  I myself have had the privilege of traveling to Arizona with Mr. Akiyama several times, experiencing profound joy and liberation of the soul.

I look forward to sharing this journey with you.

Avalon Eco-Village

An eco-village in Tumacacori, southern Arizona, USA.  Over 100 people from around the world live together on 227 acres (roughly 19 Tokyo Domes) of vast land.  They practice agriculture incorporating permaculture principles, traditional gardening techniques, and new sustainable technologies, continuously pursuing a sustainable lifestyle.

Many residents hold jobs and engage daily with the local community. This eco-village was originally located in Sedona. When Mr. Akiyama visited Sedona, he encountered this eco-village, and exchanges began.  Even after the eco-village relocated to Southern Arizona, the exchanges continued. Each time he visited, they held exchange concerts with the eco-village and visitors from Japan, or engaged in artistic exchanges through Mr. Akiyama's dot painting workshops, deepening their friendship.

During this trip, we will stay at the eco-village, learn about sustainable living through tours of its various facilities and lectures on sustainable agriculture, architecture, and infrastructure.  We will also visit the nearby town of Tubac, participate in Mr. Akiyama's dot painting workshops, and attend a concert featuring collaborations between Mr. Akiyama and the eco-village's artists.  It promises to be a rich and fulfilling experience.

Sedona

The town in North-Central Arizona where red rocks stretch out.

It is a sacred site for Native Americans, with numerous vortexes—places where the Earth's magnetic energy swirls.  Famous as a power spot where you can feel the Earth's energy, many people say visiting Sedona changed their life or outlook on life.

Lots of fun activities including vortex tours, a mini workshop by Craig Junjulas, a metaphysical teacher who lives in Sedona and close friend of Mineo, barbecues and bonfires, and a mandala art video show by Mineo & Craig and more!

Mineo Akiyama, Artist

Born in 1943 in Nirasaki City, Yamanashi Prefecture.
He developed an affinity for painting from childhood and continued to pick up the brush without formal instruction. At age 56, he liquidated the company he had been running and embarked on a journey dedicated to painting. Traveling wherever invited, he spends over 300 days a year on the road. His dot paintings, reminiscent of the cosmos, bring inspiration and healing to people wherever he goes. His warm, humorous personality makes him immensely popular wherever he goes. His activities extend beyond Japan, reaching overseas as well.

Craig Junjulas, Metaphysical Teacher

A metaphysical teacher residing in Sedona, Arizona, USA. (Metaphysical comes from “meta” meaning beyond and “physical” meaning matter or body, referring to that which transcends matter and the physical body. A metaphysical teacher is someone who teaches about unseen dimensions and spiritual matters.) For over 40 years, he has supported individuals in their personal growth and development in psychic and spiritual realms, utilizing his keen intuition and reading abilities. He first visited Japan over 15 years ago and regularly held classes and sessions there until the pandemic. His loving personality, humility, and sense of humor have earned his many fans. “Inspirational Mandala Oracle Cards” (published by Club World Co., Ltd.) where Craig channeled messages for Mineo’s mandala art, have also been well-received. Founder and Director of Higher Self Discovery. www.higherselfdiscovery.com

Kumi Tanabe, Coordinator/Interpreter

About 20 years ago, she met Mineo and began attending his dot painting workshops and events. His art and words gave her courage and moved her deeply; she felt her heart growing lighter. She organized Mr. Akiyama's dot painting workshops in Tokyo and in the Yatsugatake area where she currently lives. She met Craig shortly after meeting Mineo. She was asked to interpret for Craig and has been one of his interpreters from the early days of his activities in Japan. She handled the Japanese translation for the “Inspirational Mandala Oracle Cards.” Currently, she is studying to become a nature guide, wanting to share the natural beauty of the Yatsugatake region both with Japanese people and people from overseas. Her hobbies include mountain climbing, gardening, traveling and international exchange.
